Private collection, Vienna.
The Galerie d'Apollon is located in the Petite Galerie of the Louvre and was reopened in 1851 with the present-day design and furnishing. Only a few years later, in 1876, Franz Alt sojourned in Paris and painted a view of the splendid interior for the first time. The present sheet is a repetition of the compositionally and painterly well-balanced masterpiece and was executed in 1902.
